Bespoke GRP Clock Tower

Image
Good Directions Ltd had the pleasure of manufacturing a bespoke GRP Clock Tower for a customer who had purchased a standard design previously from the company over 20 years ago. Although their existing was still working completely fine, the customer wanted a refresh and a new design too that was unique to them. After correspondence with the customer, it was decided Good Directions would manufacture a completely bespoke 900mm Bell Tower, complete with a clock in the base and feature columns. The Clock Tower was finished off with a lead effect sphere finial on the top. To be able to manufacture this bespoke Clock Tower Good Directions made a timber pattern and then a mould from the pattern to create the finished GRP tower. Good Directions chooses to create their Clock Towers out of GRP as it is the most beneficial option available in modern times. Not only does this help keep the cost down, but more importantly it keeps the weight down which helps massively with the installation pr

Bespoke Roof Turret for a New Build Estate

Image
Good Directions Ltd manufactured a bespoke 900mm Roof Turret complete with a Verdigris copper effect roof and gold painted finial on top, for a new build project by Rose Builders Ltd. Working from a drawing which was provided by the customer, this Cupola was to go onto a project in Essex where the builders were constructing 10 bungalows and wanted a unique roof feature that could be seen from each property. The builders wanted a traditional looking roof turret but without the hassle of painting and maintaining the tower once it was installed, so it was manufactured in GRP as a lightweight alternative with a much longer life span than using wood. Manufacturing a bespoke Roof Turret such as this one required a timber pattern to be made, from which a mould was then taken. This mould was then used multiple times to create each side of the roof turret, which were then assembled to create the finished tower. This Roof Turret had a tongue and groove base skirt, which is a distinctive

Grace Pillar Clock

Image
Good Directions LTD has launched a new Pillar Clock called the ‘Grace’ to add to its already impressive range of eight standard designs. The inception of this design came about by the company being asked to manufacture a more decorative pillar clock, which kept in line with their traditional designs and values but promised a more customisable design that could be used for promotional purposes. The shape and design of the ‘Grace’ took inspiration from their best seller the ‘Albert’ Pillar clock, with the base and middle section keeping the same design, but the dial box was redesigned for a more personal touch by adding “scroll” panels above and below the clocks suitable for adding sign writing. Manufacturing a Pillar Clock such as the ‘Grace’ not only allowed for signage to be a default option on this Pillar Clock, but it also allows customers to create synergy around existing design choices customers may have on their establishments. The ‘Grace’ is particularly popular among Golf C

Nomads’ Coffee Shop Clock

Image
Good Directions LTD had the pleasure of manufacturing a bespoke double-sided Drum Clock for Nomads’ Coffee Shop, located in Paisley, Scotland. This drum clock was to be a replica of an old travel agents clock which hung outside of “Duncan’s Travel Agency” back in 1957, a business which stood on the same location that Nomads’ now occupies. In June 2021, Nomads’ Coffee moved into the historic location and as part of a move to restore and retain the heritage of this iconic building, as they had kept the travel themed etched windows and other original features, they wanted a replica of the long lost clock feature, but in the colour scheme of Nomad’s quaint coffee shop. We were contacted by SJM Architects who were working on a project to refurbish the shop frontage as part of the townscape heritage regeneration of Paisley High Street. Working with SJM Architects, Good Directions replicated the original clock design working from historical photos. Aluminium profiles were cut on Good Di

Replica Commemorative Bronze Plaque manufactured for Transport For London

Image
Good Directions Ltd recently worked on a project for the TFL (Transport for London) alongside two of their long standing associates Archirest Ltd and Fain Redfern, to create a large commemorative bronze plaque. This plaque was no ordinary plaque though and was in fact a replica of an original featured outside of Baker Street Underground Station in London, which was installed in 1963 marking the centenary of the Metropolitan Railway . The original plaque was stolen at some point over the years and subsequently replaced with an inferior version, which was in place for many years before finally being replaced with the one manufactured by Good Directions Ltd. The plaque itself measured in at 485 x 700mm and was manufactured out of 4mm thick bronze plate. Working from historical photos Good Directions Ltd was able to recreate an exact replica in every details including the original font designed in 1913 for the London Underground, the ‘Johnston’ typeface. The bronze was CNC routered

Hexagonal Exterior Clocks

Image
Once again working with ‘G-Enviro’ in Saudi Arabia, Good Directions LTD produced and manufactured 3 Hexagonal bezel clocks for the Middle Eastern company. These clocks had a different brief from the ones previously manufactured. All these dials were to be a simple modern design, but also had to be in a hexagonal shape bezel instead of the standard round style. The design choice here was to allow the clocks to fit in with the existing aesthetic of the structures they were being installed on, which had a honeycomb pattern and design. The clocks were manufactured to be a feature on the structure, which was hiding a radio mast, to stop them being such an eye sore. These Hexagonal bezel clocks were all manufactured in GRP with acrylic dials and came in at a diameter of 1350mm. GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) has many advantages over traditional materials used in architecture and construction, one being the lightweight nature. GRP is perfect for these big installations as it is only 1/10

HOIMI Clocks for Saudi Arabia

Clocks are a key architectural feature in many parts of the world and not just for telling the time but as a symbol of power and importance helping to make buildings stand out from the crowd. It was this exact reason why ‘G-Enviro’ in The Middle East got in contact with us regarding the manufacturing of clocks. G-Enviro is a leading company in Telecom full turn-key projects and manufacturer of traditional and non-traditional supporting structures. As part of the unusual structures they create to mask unsightly telecom masts, they were looking for large clocks to create a focal point.   ‘G-Enviro’ enquired all around the globe for who was the best manufacturer of large exterior clocks and after extensive research they decided that they wanted to work with a UK manufacturer and after discussing their needs with various companies they chose ‘Good Directions Ltd’. Having looked at our selection of clock dials they chose our Skeleton bezel clocks for their traditional style, clarity
