Hexagonal Exterior Clocks
Once again working with ‘G-Enviro’ in Saudi Arabia, Good Directions LTD produced and manufactured 3 Hexagonal bezel clocks for the Middle Eastern company. These clocks had a different brief from the ones previously manufactured. All these dials were to be a simple modern design, but also had to be in a hexagonal shape bezel instead of the standard round style.
The design choice here was to allow the clocks to fit in
with the existing aesthetic of the structures they were being installed on, which
had a honeycomb pattern and design. The clocks were manufactured to be a
feature on the structure, which was hiding a radio mast, to stop them being
such an eye sore.
These Hexagonal bezel clocks were all manufactured in GRP with
acrylic dials and came in at a diameter of 1350mm. GRP (Glass Reinforced
Plastic) has many advantages over traditional materials used in architecture
and construction, one being the lightweight nature. GRP is perfect for these
big installations as it is only 1/10th of the weight of metal or
wood, yet it is incredibly strong, hard wearing and virtually maintenance free.
It can also be customised to have the same aesthetic and visual properties of more
traditional materials, without the long-term constant maintenance required by
them.
All three dials were also back illuminated with LED strips fitted
inside the bezel, ensuring the whole clock face is always lit up and gives
passer-by’s the best chance of being able to read the time, no matter the time
of day. This further helps the dials stand out from the existing honeycomb
pattern featured on the structure itself.
Powering and controlling these large-scale clocks are Good
Directions LTD’s Total Control Systems, allowing automatic time changes to
occur whenever there is a seasonal time change or a power outage. Having your
clock automatically adjust to these time changes allows you to place your
clocks in more creative areas and in very high places, as constant access is
not required to change the time.
