Bespoke GRP Clock Tower

Good Directions Ltd had the pleasure of manufacturing a bespoke GRP Clock Tower for a customer who had purchased a standard design previously from the company over 20 years ago. Although their existing was still working completely fine, the customer wanted a refresh and a new design too that was unique to them.

After correspondence with the customer, it was decided Good Directions would manufacture a completely bespoke 900mm Bell Tower, complete with a clock in the base and feature columns. The Clock Tower was finished off with a lead effect sphere finial on the top. To be able to manufacture this bespoke Clock Tower Good Directions made a timber pattern and then a mould from the pattern to create the finished GRP tower.

Good Directions chooses to create their Clock Towers out of GRP as it is the most beneficial option available in modern times. Not only does this help keep the cost down, but more importantly it keeps the weight down which helps massively with the installation process as well as putting less stress on the roof structure. Using GRP allows Good Directions to give the aesthetics of metal, wood, or any other natural material, but at a fraction of the weight and with no need for painting or maintenance. GRP is a versatile and sturdy manufacturing material whose importance in the engineering industry cannot be underestimated.

The Clock Tower was finished in a soft cream colour with a lead effect roof to complement the real lead base it was installed onto. The bespoke Clock Tower had a black 610mm Skeleton Dial on the front facing side, with the dial having further detailing with bespoke gold sign writing which read “Platinum Jubilee 06/06/2022”. The numerals, chapter rings and hands were also gilded to create a beautiful juxtaposition between the black of the dial and the gleam of the gold.

The replica GRP bell which featured on this Clock Tower was finished in a bronze effect, to give the illusion that this was an old and weathered bronze bell, not a new one. As this was a replica, the bell itself does not ring, which is where Good Directions electronic bell chiming system comes in. These electronic chimes are emitted through a speaker, which is hidden inside the unit and can be programmed to only ring at certain times of the day, meaning you do not have to worry about waking up or disturbing anyone at unsociable hours.
