Pupil wins replica clock for designing a new large exterior clock for Darrick Wood school.

Darrick Wood Junior School wanted an exterior clock to go on their school wall and decided that it would be a great idea to get the children involved, so they ran a competition to see who could design the best clock face.

Four children's designs were short listed and then the Headteacher came to us for advice. As the children range in age from 7 - 11 years old it was decided that above all the clock needed to be clear and simple to read. Several of the designs had a leaf theme as every class is named after a tree and the logo for the school is a leaf.

However having submitted nine variations, based on the children's designs, for the school to choose from it was decided that the winner should be Ela, aged eleven. Her design was on a clear white back ground, with the school logo in the middle and a pattern of children around the outside in red, blue, yellow and green. The Headteacher saying that this design was simple but effective and fitted the school house system and ethos.

So from this we sent the school a final design of the clock face and superimposed it onto the school building so they could see what it would look like before placing the order. The Headteacher also asked if we could manufacture a small replica of the large exterior clock to present to Ela as a lasting keepsake.

Once the clock design itself was approved the Headteacher also decided that obviously they needed the clock to be accurate at all times without the need for the caretaker to go up a ladder whenever they had a power failure or at the summer and winter time changes twice a year.

So they chose our Master Clock Controller, which is linked to the Atomic time signal via a radio receiver and sits within the mechanism casing, ensuring accurate time keeping and self adjusting after a power failure and at the summer and winter time changes. Perfect for any clock positioned in a place where keeping to a timetable is imperative.

When the clocks were complete the school held a presentation at their morning assembly and Ela received her replica clock, while the large exterior clock based on her design now has pride of place on the school wall for all to see and enjoy.
